Renting a Car at Oxford Botley

Local Car and Van Hire in Oxford

Oxford, the county town of Oxfordshire in the South East of England, is famous as the home of the oldest university in the Western word. Oxford is an ancient city, with an architectural heritage dating back to Saxon times. Besides the many college buildings, other places of interest include the Bodleian Library and the Ashmolean, History of Science and Natural History museums. As one would expect from a university city, places of entertainment are plentiful in Oxford and include several theatres, such as the New Theatre on George Street, and several cinemas, including two Odeons. Shopping opportunities are plentiful in the town, around Cornmarket Street and Broad Street, and there is a variety of shopping malls dotted around the city and its environs. Oxford is close to some quintessentially English country towns, such as High Wycombe, Aylesbury and Henley-on-Thames. Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, and the city of Warwick, with its magnificent castle, are less than an hour’s drive away. The Enterprise Rent-A-Car premises are a 20-minute walk, located 1.3 miles outside the city centre on West Way (the A420) Botley Road. Buses travel the route on a regular basis, or you could ask Enterprise to collect you.

A Wide Range of Vehicles to Hire

If you are single or perhaps a couple travelling in the Oxford area, a small, light hatchback is a great, economical way to get out and about and see what Oxfordshire and its neighbouring counties have to offer. If you are a family touring around England, then you will need a larger vehicle, perhaps a saloon or a people-carrier. You can also hire 4x4s or choose from a premium range for that special occasion.

Driving Information in Oxford

Navigating around Oxford is made easier by a ring road. However, visiting motorists should do their research to find out the hours during which some roads that traverse the centre are closed off to vehicles other than buses, taxis and bicycles. Not surprisingly, six park and ride sites surround the city, offering almost 5,000 spaces. The M40 London to Birmingham route is about six miles from the centre and other A roads, such as the A34 West or the A40 North and North-East, are easily accessible. London Oxford Airport serves Oxford, and Heathrow is less than 50 miles away. The city has a mainline rail station and comprehensive bus coverage, both locally and out to the surrounding towns and countryside. There is some off-street parking in the city centre and pay and display facilities at Beckett Street and Oxpens, among other sites.
